Leadership Coos Graduation & Upcoming Event

Congratulations to the 34th Class of Leadership Coos on their graduation earlier this week! I’m proud to say I was one of the 34 participants, and what a legendary year it’s been. We didn’t just learn about leadership—we lived it. From new friendships to community partnerships, we built connections that will last and make a difference.

Over the past year, we explored the heart of our Bay Area—touring our theaters, hospital, clinics, and even the county jail. We heard from the Oregon State Police, met their K-9s and bomb squad, visited our schools, the Boys & Girls Club, and even toured the Water Board. But somewhere between the field trips, fun, and behind-the-scenes access, something magical happened—we uncovered the layers of our community.

We saw the infrastructure, the challenges, the opportunities. We met the people who keep the lights on, the roads clear, the policies progressing, and the kids learning. And we learned what the Bay Area Chamber has always known: leadership isn’t about titles—it’s about action.

Our graduation was held at the Coos Yacht Club in Lakeside on a gorgeous day, complete with a pirate theme and a delicious feast, thanks to our amazing Leadership Steering Committee. Congrats to my fellow graduates—you’ve earned your sea legs! And remember: the best leaders don’t just follow the tide—they chart the course… or walk the plank! Arrgh!

And speaking of charting the course—don’t miss our next Business After Hours! Join us Thursday , May 22nd from 5 to 7 PM at Global Inn, 1001 N. Bayshore Drive in Coos Bay, as they celebrate 10 years in business! There’ll be food, tours, and great networking—see you there!
