Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Announces 2024 Award Recipients

Coos Bay, OR – On Saturday, January 25th, the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual awards banquet, celebrating the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations in the community. The following honorees were recognized for their remarkable achievements and service:
Citizen of the Year
Winner: Kathe McNutt
Kathe McNutt was honored for her dedicated service to the community over the last 50 years. She has been a key figure in the development and maintenance of Mingus Park Pool and has touched countless lives as a teacher and coach, particularly in swimming. Recently, she was inducted into the Marshfield Hall of Fame for her contributions to the Marshfield Swim Team.
Business of the Year
Winner: Jeremy Oliver, Yellow Cab Taxi
Yellow Cab Taxi was recognized for their 80+ years of service to the community, including providing free rides for veterans. Their Pink Cab Rides initiative has also raised funds and awareness for breast cancer research.
Chamber Member of the Year
Winner: Derek Tonn, Small Business Development Center at SOCC
Derek Tonn, a dedicated member of the Chamber, serves on the Board of Directors and actively participates in environmental efforts such as trash clean-ups at John Topits Park and across Coos County.
Community Award
This award was presented to Star of Hope, Bay Area Enterprises, South Coast Horizons, New Horizons, and Premier Community Supports. These organizations provide essential resources and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.
President’s Award
Winner: Ron Kutch, West Coast Contractors
Ron Kutch was honored for his outstanding contributions to the Chamber, including work on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Legislative Action Team, and Transportation initiatives.
Prefontaine Award
Winners: Daphne Scriven, Marshfield High School; Jason Padgett, North Bend High School
This award recognizes excellence in academics and athletics. Both students have shown remarkable achievements in these areas, serving as models of dedication and excellence.
