What is the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce?
A chamber of commerce (or board of trade) is a form of business network, e.g., a local organization of businesses whose goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community. Local businesses are members, and they elect a board of directors or executive council to set policy for the chamber. The board or council then hires a President, CEO or Executive Director, plus staffing appropriate to size, to run the organization.
ABOUT US… The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) is a non-profit, professional organization made up of the Coos Bay, North Bend and Charleston business communities (Oregon’s Bay Area). Together we work to create a strong business voice, promote business and improve the economy of the Bay Area. Businesses in the Bay Area increasingly endorse the Chamber of Commerce and we continue to be recognized as a vital link between the Cities, State and regional parties of leadership, and act as the promoting entity for community spirit within the Bay Area.
Founded in 1980, the BACC was created from a merger of the Coos Bay and North Bend Chambers. With over 600 members, the Chamber’s strength lies in the number and diversity of its membership. The acitivites of the BACC vary in respsonse to the needs of the business community. Much of the Chamber’s work is accomplished through the volunteered time and efforts of its members, primarily through committees, providing commuity leadership in the areas of economic development, government affairs, leadership development, natural resources, tourism and transportation. The Chamber also manages the Coos Bay Visitor Center, greeting over 36,000 visitors and responding to approximately 22,500 requests for information annually.
